Angels option reliever Alvarez, recall Wall

DETROIT -- The Angels swapped relievers once again on Friday, optioning lefty Jose Alvarez to Triple-A Salt Lake and calling up right-hander Josh Wall.

The Angels "want Jose Alvarez to go down there and get stretched out, because he is in our depth chart as a starter," manager Mike Scioscia said.

Alvarez, acquired from the Tigers in exchange for infielder Andrew Romine during Spring Training, recorded just two outs with the Angels since being recalled on Sunday and had an 8.38 ERA in his first two starts in Triple-A.

Wall, 27, was claimed off waivers from the Marlins in October, posted a 12.08 ERA in 12 2/3 innings with the Dodgers the last two seasons and started this season with a 2.16 ERA in six appearances for the Salt Lake Bees.

"Josh is throwing the ball well," Scioscia said. "It's a nice power right-handed arm, and we'll see where he fits in."
