Ramirez named NL Player of the Week

Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez capped off a blistering stretch of late by being named the National League Player of the Week on Monday.

Following a slow start to the season, Ramirez raised his batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage by at least 30 points each last week alone. The 37-year-old hit a Major League-best .545 (12-for-22) with a home run and 11 RBIs -- one shy of teammate Adam Lind's league-leading 12 -- en route to winning his fifth career Player of the Week Award, and first since July 3, 2011.

Ramirez began his award-worthy week by coming off the bench as a pinch-hitter last Monday against the Phillies. He made his lone at-bat count, however, delivering what proved to be the game-deciding, two-run double in an eventual 7-4 victory.

Ramirez continued the trend throughout the week, driving in at least one run in each of the Brewers' seven games. He also contributed at least one hit in each of those contests, including five multi-hit efforts.

The only game in which he started and did not record multiple hits came on Friday when he went 1-for-3 -- though his only hit was a solo home run. 

Ramirez entered play Monday hitting .244/.286/.438 with 10 home runs and 39 RBIs in 70 games. This is his 15th consecutive season with double-digit homers.
