D-backs call up Marte, option Campana

SAN DIEGO -- With outfielder Ender Inciarte being added to the roster the D-backs decided that outfielder Tony Campana, who possesses the same skillset, was expendable.

So Campana was optioned to Triple-A Reno and the team called up outfielder Alfredo Marte to provide some added power off the bench.

Campana was hitting just .160 in 51 plate appearances and his speed was neutralized by the fact that he was not able to get on base.

"I've had a rough patch the last couple of weeks," Campana said. "I think it's just getting down there and figuring it out at the plate a little bit. I think that's it. Just start swinging it a little better and hopefully come back."

Marte was hitting .342 with five doubles, a triple, a homer and 11 RBIs for Reno this year.

Last season Marte appeared in 22 games for the D-backs and hit .186.
