Rotation mainly a mystery as spring camp nears

Collmenter, Hellickson penciled in, but many candidates remain

PHOENIX -- In this installment of our Spring Training preview series we look at the projected lineup and starting rotation, which in the case of the D-backs is nearly impossible.

With a new front office and manager in place and a roster that has been significantly revamped since last season's disappointing 64-98 finish, there are very few sure things with the D-backs.

That is especially true in the starting rotation beyond Josh Collmenter and Jeremy Hellickson. Chase Anderson, Robbie Ray, Rubby De La Rosa, Allen Watson, Andrew Chafin, Trevor Cahill, Vidal Nuno, Daniel Hudson, Randall Delgado, Yoan Lopez and Archie Bradley are among those who have a shot to grab one of the final three starting spots.

The lineup seems similarly in flux. A lot will depend on whether Yasmany Tomas can play third base and if he is ready to start the year in the big leagues. Another question is the health of shortstop Chris Owings' left shoulder, and depending on how Aaron Hill looks this spring, he could find himself starting at second or third, or not even in the lineup.

With all that in mind, here's a best attempt at what things could look like come April 6 when the Giants come to Chase Field for Opening Day.
