Cahill takes focus off weight

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Last spring, D-backs right-hander Trevor Cahill reported to camp noticeably thinner than he was the year before, but he appeared to put the weight back on as the season progressed.

This spring, Cahill looks about the same as he did at the end of last season.

"That didn't work like I wanted it to go," Cahill said of dropping weight for last season.

Rather than improve his performance on the mound, Cahill wound up going 8-10 with a 3.99 ERA while dealing with some injury and mechanical issues.

So this offseason, Cahill focused more on strengthening his legs and less on how much he weighed.

"I think it's overrated," Cahill said about dropping weight. "I'm just trying to eat healthy when I can."
