A's acquire RHP Edward Mujica from Boston Red Sox
OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's have acquired right-handed pitcher Edward Mujica and cash considerations from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations, the team announced today. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Jarrod Parker has been transferred to the 60-day disabled list. A corresponding 25-man roster move will be made when Mujica reports.
Mujica, who turns 31 on Sunday, was designated for assignment Friday after going 1-1 with a 4.61 ERA in 11 relief appearances for Boston. His opponents had a .294 batting average, including .259 against left-handed hitters and .333 against right-handers. Mujica was named to the National League All-Star team in 2013 as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals and is 22-24 with a 3.79 ERA in 456 career appearances, four starts, in 10 seasons with Cleveland (2006-08), San Diego (2009-10), Miami (2011-12), St. Louis (2012-13) and Boston (2014-15).
