On great leaping grab, Crisp sustains strained neck
A's center fielder crashes into wall on catch to end top of fourth inning
OAKLAND -- A's outfielder Coco Crisp exited the club's twin-bill opener on Wednesday against the Mariners in the top of the fourth inning with a strained neck after crashing into the wall while making a tremendous inning-ending grab of Kyle Seager's flyout.
Oakland manager Bob Melvin expects Crisp to be out "a couple of days."
Crisp immediately fell to the ground following the catch and remained there for nearly five minutes, before standing and walking slowly off the field with head trainer Nick Paparesta.
Crisp headed straight for the clubhouse and was replaced in the bottom of the inning by Craig Gentry.
The A's lost the opener, 6-4, but bounced back in the nightcap with a 2-0 win.
