A's Place Colón on the 15-day DL; Recall Milone from Triple-A Sacramento

The Oakland A's placed right-handed pitcher Bartolo Colón on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to August 14 with a strained left groin, the club announced today. To take his spot on the roster, the A's have recalled left-handed pitcher Tommy Milone from Triple-A Sacramento.

Colón is 14-5 with a 2.97 ERA in 24 starts. He is tied for second in the American League in wins and ranks ninth in ERA. After starting the season 14-3, Colón has tossed four innings or fewer in each of his last two starts, going 0-2 with a 13.50 ERA and .438 opponents batting average. He has set an Oakland record for wins by a 40-year-old and his 14 wins are his most since 2005 when he went 21-8 for the Angels and won the AL Cy Young.

Milone was on the A's Opening Day roster and went 9-9 with a 4.39 ERA in 22 starts before he was optioned to Sacramento August 3. He had no decisions and a 1.74 ERA in two starts with the River Cats. Milone is 3-4 with a 5.54 ERA over his last nine starts with the A's after going 6-5 with a 3.69 ERA over his first 13 starts.
