A's Place LHP Doolittle on the 15-day DL; Recall RHP Castro from Nashville

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's placed left-handed pitcher Sean Doolittle on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to May 28 with a strained left shoulder, the club announced today. To take his spot on the roster, the A's recalled right-handed pitcher Angel Castro from Triple-A Nashville.

Doolittle missed all of Spring Training and started the season on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left rotator cuff. He began his rehab assignment with Single-A Stockton May 14, was transferred to Double-A Midland for one game on May 19 and moved to Nashville May 22 for his final two appearances. Doolittle had a loss and a 9.00 ERA in five rehab appearances overall when he was reinstated from the DL May 26. He appeared in one game with the A's on Wednesday against Detroit, tossing a scoreless sixth inning and allowing one hit while striking out two.

Castro joins the A's for the second time this year. He began the season at Nashville and went 0-1 with a 3.79 ERA in six games, two starts, before he was selected by the A's May 8. Castro did not allow a run in three of his four relief appearances with Oakland (3.00 ERA), but allowed six hits in 3.0 innings for a .462 opponents batting average. He was optioned to Nashville on Tuesday when Doolittle was reinstated from the DL and recorded the save in his only outing on Thursday at Sacramento. Castro has a 3.60 ERA in seven games overall with the Sounds.
