A's Recall RHP Smith from Nashville; Option RHP Cook to Nashville

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's have recalled right-handed pitcher Chad Smith from Triple-A Nashville and optioned right-handed pitcher Ryan Cook to Nashville, the team announced today.

Smith is 1-1 with two saves and a 2.31 ERA in eight relief appearances for the Sounds. His opponents have a .277 batting average, including .182 against right-handed hitters and .154 with runners in scoring position. Smith will be making his A's debut. He made his Major League debut with Detroit last season and posted a 5.40 ERA in 10 relief appearances. 

Cook is 0-2 with a 10.38 ERA in four relief appearances for the A's. He was recalled from Nashville on April 26 after he went 2-0 with one save in five relief appearances. He did not allow a run in 5.2 innings with the Sounds and yielded just one hit for a .059 opponents batting average.
