O'Flaherty's MRI shows no structural damage

MINNEAPOLIS -- An MRI on A's reliever Eric O'Flaherty's left shoulder revealed no structural damage. The southpaw was diagnosed with inflammation and irritation in the joint and will be shut down indefinitely.

O'Flaherty, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday, won't begin throwing again until his range of motion and strength improves, leaving the A's with just one left-hander in their bullpen -- Fernando Abad -- until further notice.

Should they seek help from the left side, the A's are likely to call upon switch-pitcher Pat Venditte, who has a 1.12 ERA across 16 innings in seven games for Triple-A Nashville.

O'Flaherty struggled to the tune of an 11.57 ERA in seven innings prior to landing on the DL, and it's unclear if those woes correlated with an off-and-on shoulder issue.

• Outfielder Coco Crisp (right elbow surgery) went 1-for-5 with a double in his second rehab game for Class A Advanced Stockton on Monday, after going 1-for-3 with an RBI for the Ports on Sunday. He could be reinstated from the DL sometime this week.

• Right-hander Jarrod Parker allowed three runs on four hits, including a home run, with one walk and four strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings for Triple-A Nashville on Sunday, marking his third rehab start. Parker, who is coming back from Tommy John surgery, is expected to make at least two more Minor League starts before joining the A's rotation.

• Closer Sean Doolittle, who is rehabbing a shoulder injury, is scheduled to throw two more bullpen sessions this week. The lefty could face hitters as soon as May 11.

• First baseman Nate Freiman, who has been nursing a strained back muscle for several weeks, was to begin a rehab assignment with Nashville on Monday.
