A's see two replay calls go the other way
BOSTON -- A's manager Bob Melvin lost his third challenge in 10 tries this season on the first play of his club's series finale in Boston.
Speedy leadoff man Coco Crisp was called out on a close play at first base by umpire Dan Bellino on a grounder to third. Melvin came out of the dugout to challenge the call.
Following a review, the call stood.
Two innings later, Josh Donaldson was ruled out at the plate on a call that was reviewed by the umpires at the urging of Melvin, who believed catcher A.J. Pierzynski was blocking the plate.
It was decided, however, that Pierzynski was not in violation of any plate-blocking rules.
