Manaea highlights A's AFL contingent

OAKLAND -- The A's will be sending six of their prospects to the Arizona Fall League, including lefty Sean Manaea and infielders Matt Chapman and Chad Pinder.

Right-hander Kris Hall, southpaw Brendan McCurry and outfielder Jaycob Brugman will join them on the Mesa Solar Sox in the annual league featuring a bevy of the game's brightest young players. Mesa will also feature prospects from the Angels, Cubs, Rays and Marlins.

Steve Connelly, the pitching coach at Oakland's Class A affiliate in Beloit, will serve in the same capacity for the Solar Sox. The season begins Oct. 13 and ends with the championship game Nov. 21.

Manaea, ranked by MLB.com as the club's No. 3 prospect, arrived in the July trade that sent Ben Zobrist to Kansas City. Chapman (No. 5), Pinder (7), Brugman (21) and McCurry (30) are also among MLB.com's Top 30 A's prospects.

Manaea, 23, has excelled in the early goings of his tenure in the A's organization, entering Tuesday with a 5-0 record and 2.21 ERA in six starts for Double-A Midland.

Teammate Pinder, a second-round selection by the A's in 2013, is enjoying a tremendous season with the RockHounds, batting .318/.363/.487 with 15 home runs and 86 RBIs in 116 games. Brugman, also with Midland, has a .263 average in 126 games.

Chapman, Oakland's 2014 first-round Draft pick, is hitting .259/.353/.587 with 23 home runs and 56 RBIs in 77 games for Class A Advanced Stockton.

Hall was recently promoted to Triple-A Nashville, after posting a 2.61 ERA in 36 games (two starts) with 70 strikeouts across 69 innings for Midland.
