A's take free-swinging Higley in 13th round

Justin Higley finished the 2013 season with a .252 batting average in 210 at-bats for Sacramento State.

The A's 13th-round pick also hit 10 home runs, but he struck out 55 times with just 22 walks.

The 6-foot-4, 200-pound outfielder bats lefty and throws righty. He's stated that one of his professional aspirations is to become a police officer.

Higley was used in multiple spots in the lineup while at Sacramento State, batting in the first, second, fourth, fifth and sixth spots in the order.
