Rays activate Asdrubal, option Elmore

ST. PETERSBURG -- Rays shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera was activated from the 15-day disabled list following 5-2 win over the Tigers on Monday.

Cabrera has missed 11 games since sustaining a right hamstring strain on July 11 and he was slated to begin a rehab assignment Monday at Class A Advanced Port Charlotte, but the game was rained out.

Now, instead of playing in the Minors, Cabrera will slot into the Rays' lineup Tuesday against former Tampa Bay pitcher and Tigers ace David Price.

In a corresponding move, the Rays optioned infielder Jake Elmore -- who has played five different positions since being recalled on May 25 -- to Triple-A Durham.

"He was up here when [James] Loney got hurt, and the way the injuries and everything else played out, he stayed with us for quite some time," Rays manager Kevin Cash said. "He did a nice job filling in and his versatility helped out a ton."

In 51 games this season, Elmore batted .206 (29-for-141) with two home runs and 16 RBIs.

"I'm still living a really blessed life, no matter if it's Triple-A or here, I'm getting to do what I love for a living," Elmore said. "Obviously the pay is better here, but it's still a good living in Triple-A, and it's not where you want to be or where you set your sights, but I feel really fortunate.

"Obviously the news hurts, but I feel confident I'll be back."
