Astros Place Qualls on DL, Recall Singleton

Reliever sidelined with pinched nerve in neck

HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros have placed right-handed pitcher Chad Qualls on the 15-day Disabled List with a pinched nerve in his neck, and have recalled first baseman Jon Singleton from Triple A Fresno, General Manager Jeff Luhnow announced today. 

Singleton, 23, is scheduled to join the Astros in Houston in time for tonight's 7:10 p.m. game vs. the Yankees. In 70 games at Fresno, Singleton currently leads the Pacific Coast League in home runs (17), RBI (66) and runs scored (56), while batting .280 with a .387 on-base percentage, and a .553 slugging pct. (.940 OPS). His 66 RBI are tied for tops in all of minor league baseball with first baseman A.J. Reed, who plays for the Astros Class A Lancaster club. 

Qualls' DL stint is retroactive to June 25. Qualls, who is 1-4 in 29 appearance this season, has compiled a 47-46 mark in 750 career appearances with a 3.80 ERA and 74 saves.
