Astros trade infielder Petit to Yankees

Houston will receive a PTBNL or cash considerations

HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros have traded infielder Gregorio Petit to the New York Yankees today in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations. The announcement was made by Astros General Manager Jeff Luhnow.

Petit, 30, was a non-roster invite to Major League Spring Training and appeared in 18 games with the Astros this Spring. He played in 37 Major League games with Houston last season, and has played in parts of three total Major League seasons with Houston (2014) and Oakland (2008-09). Petit was originally signed by Houston as a minor league free agent on Jan. 14, 2014.

Petit was reassigned to minor league camp on March 29, but remained with the Major League team through the end of the Grapefruit League season.
