Ike day to day with strained left quad

OAKLAND -- A's first baseman Ike Davis is day to day with a left quad strain, after exiting Monday's 5-4 loss to the Red Sox in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Davis said he's experienced tightness in the same quad for several weeks, "and it just flared up" while running to second on a leadoff double. He advanced to third on a Brett Lawrie single but was removed thereafter and replaced by Max Muncy.

Manager Bob Melvin does not believe Davis will need to go on the disabled list.

"Probably smart on his part for getting me out of the game, because it probably would've just made it worse," said Davis. "I don't think I did it that bad, so maybe it feels better tomorrow, but hopefully it's not very long."
