A. Garcia returns from paternity leave, starts vs. Tigers

DETROIT -- Avisail Garcia returned from paternity leave and was back in the White Sox starting lineup on Friday night.

Garcia missed the previous four games to be with his wife, Anakarina, when she gave birth to the couple's first child, a daughter named Annarella, on Monday. Garcia was expected to rejoin the White Sox on Wednesday, but the team gave him an extra day to return after complications arose with his daughter.

"I thank the White Sox. They gave me a day," Garcia said. "I appreciate that. I feel great because my little girl is healthy now."

The trip is Garcia's first time back in Detroit since being traded by the Tigers to Chicago on July 30.

"It's good to have him back," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "It's an exciting time for him, having a kid, and he's coming back to play against his former team. He's happy to get back."

Garcia went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and an RBI triple in the 12-5 loss.
