Schoop hopes to return before All-Star break
Second baseman progressing in rehab for left knee injury
ST. PETERSBURG -- Second baseman Jonathan Schoop, who is rehabbing his left knee injury in nearby Sarasota, Fla., has been visiting the Orioles during the series at Tropicana Field this weekend.
Schoop is still wearing his knee brace "pretty much 24/7" and is hoping to be cleared to do some pool walking next week. He has been getting stim and ice treatment and has been working on strengthening his calf and quad a few times a day.
"I feel much better," said Schoop, who suffered the injury on April 17. "I missed being around here. I'm working hard on my rehab trying to get back."
Schoop is hoping to return before the All-Star break -- perhaps, if he progresses quickly, as early as next month.
"They didn't give me a timetable," he said. "I want to be back right now. I think I'm ahead of schedule, but I don't want to put timetable on myself because if I'm not there at that time, I might be, like, down, but hopefully I'll be back before the All-Star break. Earlier that that, hopefully. I don't know. We'll see."
