Flaherty returns to DL; Navarro recalled

Groin injury puts infielder back on shelf after rejoining O's on Friday

BALTIMORE -- The Orioles placed infielder Ryan Flaherty on the 15-day disabled list prior to Tuesday's game and recalled second baseman Rey Navarro to take his place.

Flaherty, who went 0-for-1 before leaving Monday's game, has been bothered by a right groin injury that sidelined him at the end of April. He was activated off the DL on Friday, tweaked it on Saturday and had been hoping to avoid going back on the shelf.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter said the injury bothers Flaherty the most going to his right side.

"It's really strange because everything was great, he went to his right and left with no problem," Showalter said. "He played three games [for Double-A on rehab] and then this happened up here."

Flaherty, 28, batted .250/.372/.500 (9-for-36) with three doubles, two home runs, and four RBIs in 13 games with the Orioles this season. Navarro, 25, was 6-for-19 (.316 average) in seven games with Baltimore and made his Major League debut April 24.
