Beltre named Rangers Player of the Year

ARLINGTON -- Third baseman Adrian Beltre has been named the 2013 Texas Rangers Player of the Year by the local chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America. It's the second straight year Beltre has won the award, and he's the first repeat winner since Michael Young in 2004-05.

Beltre led the Rangers with a .315 batting average along with 30 home runs and 92 RBIs. He led the American League with 199 hits. He was the first player to lead the AL with less than 200 hits in a non-strike season since Rafael Palmeiro had 191 for the Rangers in 1990.

Beltre will receive his award at the 2014 Dr Pepper Texas Rangers Awards Dinner on Jan. 24 at the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center in Grapevine. Tickets for the dinner can be purchased at
