Blue Jays move Pompey down to Double-A
Opening Day center fielder working through slump
TORONTO -- Dalton Pompey, the local kid who was the Blue Jays' Opening Day centre fielder, was sent down to the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Saturday after playing with the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons.
The 22-year-old from Mississauga, Ont., batted .193 with two home runs and six RBIs with the Blue Jays before being optioned to Buffalo in early May. Pompey's struggles continued in Buffalo, where he hit .209 and had six RBIs in 23 games.
On Saturday, the Bisons announced Pompey was on his way to New Hampshire to make room for outfielder Caleb Gindl.
Pompey, who was drafted by the Blue Jays in the 16th round of the 2010 Draft, made his Major League debut on Sept. 2, 2014. In 40 games with Toronto over two seasons, he hit .205 with three home runs and 10 RBIs.
