Bolstered El Paso defeats Sacramento

Gyorko, Almonte, Quackenbush added to Chihuahuas' roster

There was considerable player movement at the upper levels of the Padres' farm system Thursday.

Triple-A El Paso added second baseman Jedd Gyorko, center fielder Abraham Almonte and right-handed reliever Kevin Quackenbush on options from the parent Padres.

To create room on the Chihuahuas' 25-man roster, left-handed starter Jason Lane was placed on the seven-day disabled list, left-handed reliever Scott Elbert was placed on the restricted list and infielder Casey McElroy was returned to Double-A San Antonio.

At San Antonio, infielder Diego Goris was placed on the seven-day disabled list with an abdomen injury.

Meanwhile, the 29-31 Chihuahuas scored a 9-6 win over Sacramento in El Paso, getting four runs on seven hits and a walk in 4 1/3 innings against rehabbing former Padres pitcher Jake Peavy.

First baseman Tommy Medica (.246) was 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs. Third baseman Brett Wallace (.298) was 3-for-5 with two doubles, a RBI and two runs. Right fielder Rymer Liriano (.283) was 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Catcher Rocky Gale (.303) was 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Shortstop Ramiro Pena (.321) was 2-for-3 with a RBI and a run.

Left-handed starter Robbie Erlin (5.77 ERA) allowed six runs (five earned) on eight hits and a walk with six strikeouts in five innings.

Right-handed reliever Jerry Sullivan (1-0, 3.38 ERA) gave up a hit with four strikeouts in two scoreless innings to get the win. Right-hander Cory Mazzoni (2.08 ERA) gave up a hit with a strikeout in a scoreless eighth. Right-hander Marcos Mateo (2.25 ERA) allowed a hit with a strikeout in a scoreless ninth to get his eighth save.

Double-A San Antonio (26-32): Frisco 8, Missions 4. RHP Justin Hancock (5-2, 3.10 ERA) allowed five runs (four earned) on nine hits and two walks with six strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. RHP Michael Dimock (2.35 ERA) gave up two runs on two hits with three strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings. LF Yeison Asencio (.299) was 3-for-5. C Jason Hagerty (.220) was 2-for-3. 1B Duanel Jones (.348) was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Class A Advanced Lake Elsinore (26-34): Lancaster 9, Storm 8. LF Nick Schulz (.221) was 3-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and two runs. C Ryan Miller (.318) was 3-for-6 with a double, two RBIs and two runs. 1B Marcus Davis (.266) was 2-for-4 with a double. RHP Ronald Herrera (4.43 ERA) allowed six runs (four earned) on 10 hits and a walk with two strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. LHP Kyle Bartsch (1-2, 5.65 ERA) allowed three runs on three hits and a walk with a strikeout in one-third of an inning. RHP Genison Reyes (4.66 ERA) allowed a hit in two scoreless innings.

Class A Fort Wayne (25-34): Kane County 9, TinCaps 3. RF Franmil Reyes (.246) was 3-for-4 with a double, a homer and four RBIs. RHP Michael Kelly (2-1, 6.00 ERA) allowed seven runs on 10 hits and a walk in 4 2/3 innings. RHP T.J. Weir (5.40 ERA) allowed two runs on two hits with three strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings. RHP Bryan Verbitsky (2.52 ERA) allowed two hits and a walk with three strikeouts in two innings.

Dominican Summer League Padres (7-4): Diamondbacks 6, Padres 5. RHP Manuel Gonzalez (0.75 ERA) allowed four unearned runs on six hits and three walks with seven strikeouts in four innings. RHP Starling Ynfante (1-1, 0.82 ERA) allowed a run on two hits and four walks with eight strikeouts in four innings to suffer the loss. C Wilfri De La Cruz (.276) had two doubles in four at-bats with two RBIs. DH Luis Asuncion (.182) had a two-run triple in four at-bats.
