Bombers bits

• The Yankees transferred right-hander Michael Pineda to the 60-day disabled list on Tuesday. Pineda, who recently experienced a setback as he works to return from an upper back strain, would be eligible to be activated on July 5.

"We think that he's going to be out for 60 days completely, and it creates a roster spot," Girardi said.

Shawn Kelley (strained lumbar spine) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday at Yankee Stadium. If it goes well, he would be cleared to begin a Minor League rehabilitation assignment.

• On this date in 1932, Lou Gehrig hit four consecutive home runs and narrowly missed a fifth, and Tony Lazzeri hit for the cycle as the Yankees won, 20-13, at Philadelphia. The 33 combined runs tied for the most in a single game in franchise history.
