Brewers lead groundskeeper Adcock passes away

MILWAUKEE -- Lead groundskeeper Jeff Adcock, a member of the Brewers organization for the past 33 years, passed away after collapsing on Sunday at Miller Park.

"We are all saddened by the news of Jeff's passing," said Brewers executive vice president Bob Quinn said. "He was a part of our organization for many years, and was a fixture during games in our bullpen area. Jeff developed many friendships with our uniformed staff, and he will be missed by all of us. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family."

Sunday's game between the D-backs and Brewers at Miller Park was delayed after the first inning while paramedics administered emergency CPR to Adcock after he collapsed in the bullpen.

In a somber Milwaukee clubhouse, left fielder Ryan Braun declined to talk about the team's walk-off win or his selection to the All-Star Game.

"In light of what happened today, I'm not really in a place to talk about anything related to baseball," Braun said. "I think it would be inappropriate. I think there are constant reminders in life that there are things that are far more important than this game that we play."

Paramedics rushed to the bullpen during the first inning, aided at first by Brewers relievers. After the final out of the inning, play was halted while paramedics continued CPR as Adcock was transported through the bullpen gate and off the field.

As the second inning began, Milwaukee bullpen coach Stan Kyles, bullpen catcher Marcus Hanel and several players huddled in prayer.

"It's hard to pay attention [to the game] after something like that," said one of those players, Tim Dillard. He said he saw Adcock at Miller Park "every day" of his Brewers tenure, except for two games earlier this season when Adcock tended to a family emergency.
