Red-hot Parra keeps Deadline out of mind

MILWAUKEE -- Brewers outfielder Gerardo Parra has said he's unconcerned about trade rumors, and his manager was apparently taking the same approach after Parra delivered another big game in Tuesday's 8-1 win over the Indians at Miller Park.

"I don't worry," manager Craig Counsell said. "I plan on writing his name in the lineup [Wednesday]. He's doing a great job. He's going to be our leadoff hitter [Wednesday]."

Parra has been thriving in that role, hitting .339 since April 25 including two more hits Tuesday. Both were triples -- giving Parra the 21st two-triple game in Brewers history.

The only Major Leaguers with a better batting average over the past three months were All-Stars: Arizona's Paul Goldschmidt, Detroit's Miguel Cabrera, Washington's Bryce Harper and Cleveland's Jason Kipnis.

Parra has pushed Opening Day left fielder Khris Davis into a reserve role since Davis returned from knee surgery, but that situation could change by the end of next week. Parra, 28, is a free agent at season's end, and his $6.237 million salary doesn't preclude a trade, especially considering he is a left-handed hitter and a superior outfielder.

"I'm lost for words to say about him but it's fun watching him play right now," Counsell said. "He's just been exceptional, he really has."
