Davis breaks out of slump with four-hit night
Outfielder falls a triple short of cycle in loss against Cubs
MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers remain committed to power-hitting left fielder Khris Davis in spite of a recent slump, and Friday he showed a glimpse of why.
Davis finished a triple shy of the cycle, drove in three runs and hit the ninth-inning single that put the tying run on base for the Brewers in what became a 7-6 loss to the Cubs. Davis matched a career high with four hits after entering the night in a 6-for-49 funk.
"I'm just the type of person that tries to learn about myself whatever the situation is and just try to make the most out of my opportunity," Davis said. "It's going to come around. The struggle doesn't last forever."

New Brewers manager Craig Counsell suggested he saw it coming.
"I thought there's been signs of him breaking out the last couple days, actually," Counsell said. "It's great to see. I think it was coming. But it's good to see. It's an important bat that adds some real depth to our lineup -- especially with some guys out right now."
Third baseman Aramis Ramirez (back) and center fielder Carlos Gomez (hip) were sidelined on Friday. With Gomez out, Gerardo Parra played center field. When Gomez is healthy, Counsell will juggle Davis and Parra in left.
Notable about Davis' night was the trajectory of his hits -- a first-inning RBI single up the middle, a sixth-inning solo home run to left field, an eighth-inning RBI double to right field, and a ninth-inning single through the hole between shortstop and third base.
"That's my weapon as a hitter," he said, referring to the diverse spray chart.
