Brewers rescind Kintzler DFA, place righty on DL

MILWAUKEE -- Brewers reliever Brandon Kintzler's brief designation for assignment was rescinded Friday and changed to an injury move after Kintzler complained of discomfort in his knee. The team placed Kintzler on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Thursday, with left knee tendonitis.

Kintzler pitched through pain in the same knee for most of last season and had surgery in October to repair a partially torn patella tendon.

Before the current injury issue came to light, Kintzler had been designated for assignment to make room for shortstop Jean Segura's return from the DL on Friday. Kintzler posted a 6.43 ERA in seven Brewers appearances after a promotion from Triple-A Colorado Springs.

His departure is part of a recent youth movement in the Brewers' bullpen, which has seen the arrival of rookies Corey Knebel on the last road trip and David Goforth earlier this week.

"We decided that David is going to stay here and we're going to see what he can do in the bullpen," Brewers manager Craig Counsell said. "We've struggled a bit with that last spot in the bullpen. We've got to be a little better with that spot, so we're going to give David a shot at it."
