Brewers receive additional pick for 2016 Draft
MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers received an extra pick between the second and third rounds of the 2016 Draft as a result of Wednesday's Competitive Balance Lottery. Milwaukee drew the fourth pick in Round B.
It was the fourth annual Competitive Balance Lottery, a mechanism agreed upon as a part of the 2012-2016 Basic Agreement between Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association. It offers the 10 clubs with the lowest revenues and the 10 clubs in the smallest markets the opportunity to obtain additional picks.
Those clubs were entered into a lottery for the six selections immediately following the first round of the Draft. After that order was set, the eligible clubs that did not receive one of the Round A picks, plus all other clubs who received revenue sharing, were entered into a second lottery for the six picks immediately following the second round. A club's odds of winning the lottery were based on its prior season's winning percentage compared to other eligible teams.
Unlike traditional Draft picks, competitive balance picks can be exchanged in trades, subject to certain restrictions.
