Matusz to have 'minor' shoulder surgery
BALTIMORE -- Orioles left-hander Brian Matusz will undergo arthroscopic shoulder surgery on Monday on his right AC joint to fix a nagging injury he's had all season.
"It's a pretty minor procedure," said Matusz, who will get the surgery in Baltimore before heading home for the offseason. "I think the rehab is pretty minimal for the most part. It's the external part of the shoulder, so there's nothing internal or anything serious."
Matusz said getting the procedure as soon as possible will allow him to get a jumpstart on rehab and have a fairly regular winter. He also said the injury, which started in Spring Training, didn't impede him on the mound.
"[A Cortisone injection wore off] shortly after the All-Star break, but it wasn't anything that hindered performance on the field," Matusz said. "If anything, it resulted in backing off workouts. Basically we restructured workouts around the shoulder."
