Bronx construction to slow travel to Stadium

NEW YORK -- A new construction project on New York's streets will lengthen travel times to and from Yankee Stadium for the next two years.

The Major Deegan Expressway, which runs along the Bronx's western coast, will be reduced to two lanes between East 138th and 161st streets as part of a $133 million reconstruction project. The closings started Thursday evening and are expected to last two years.

The New York State Department of Transportation expects the closings to speed construction by approximately two years. In the meantime, fans are encouraged to find alternate routes to and from Yankee Stadium.
