Bullpen struggles still an issue for Phillies

MILWAUKEE -- The Phillies bullpen entered Sunday with a 4.39 ERA, which was third-worst in baseball.

It continued its struggles Sunday in a 9-1 loss to the Brewers. Phillies left-hander Jeremy Horst put a couple runners on in the seventh, and Justin De Fratus allowed them to score to make it 8-0. Jonathan Papelbon, who has been the bullpen's lone bright spot since the beginning of the season, allowed a solo homer in the eighth.

Horst is tied for the team lead with 26 appearances. He also has a 5.55 ERA.

"I think that we have to use him, and also I want to," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said of Horst. "He's very capable of doing the job for you. Sometimes it's a matter of circumstances that he's got where he's at. Sometimes staying with him helps, too. He kind of showed us last year what he could do. And he's showed you at times now that … he's had some good outings sometimes."
