Call stands as McGehee picked off second

WASHINGTON -- Replay couldn't confirm Casey McGehee's plea.

In the sixth inning on Monday against the Nationals, the Marlins third baseman was picked off second by Nats pitcher Tanner Roark, who spun and threw to shortstop Ian Desmond. McGehee dove back to the bag, reaching with his right hand.

Second-base umpire Jim Reynolds immediately ruled McGehee out. But McGehee thought he was safe and didn't leave the field.

Manager Mike Redmond, after getting the go-ahead from the dugout, issued a challenge.

"It was close and Casey was adamant. He didn't feel like he tagged him," Redmond said. "It took a while to kind of get a picture. It was inconclusive, I guess."

Various angles were shown. The Marlins felt Desmond's tag slapped the dirt and not McGehee's arm. Replay evidence wasn't as conclusive, and after a review of 2 minutes and 13 seconds, the ruling was that the call stands.

Redmond is now 10-of-12 in replay challenges.
