Capps to see some chances in eighth inning

MIAMI -- Bridging games to closer Steve Cishek will be a group effort.

Marlins manager Mike Redmond is open to several possibilities for the eighth inning. Mike Dunn, A.J. Ramos and Carlos Marmol have been given the most opportunities.

But all three have had their struggles at times. After a rough early start, Dunn has been effective. Ramos was used in the ninth inning in a save chance on Sunday against the Dodgers, but he gave up the tying run. He ended up picking up the win.

Carter Capps, the hard-throwing right-hander who opened the year at Triple-A New Orleans, promises to mix into the equation.

"I think we're going to mix and match these guys," Redmond said. "We're going to need all these guys in different situations. You saw last night with Cishek having to take a day off. We've used A.J. and Dunn. Capps is going to be right in the mix."

The eighth inning has been a struggle all year for Miami. The club has allowed 22 runs in the frame, its highest among any single inning.

Capps has been dominant since being called up. On Saturday, he threw two scoreless innings, striking out three. His fastball reached as high as 101 mph.

The Marlins are monitoring the market for veteran setup candidates.

The team explored possibly signing Joel Hanrahan, who ended up going to the Tigers.

Kevin Gregg, who was Miami's closer in 2007-08, is out there. The Marlins are weighing to see if Gregg could be a possible fit.
