Cardinals ready Draft board as big day nears

St. Louis to hold final workout at Busch Stadium on Sunday

LOS ANGELES -- With the start of the MLB Draft three days away, members of the Cardinals scouting department joined the baseball operations team back in St. Louis for the start of final Draft prep meetings. Those began on Friday, with new scouting director Chris Correa leading the process of comparing talent and discussing strategy while building the organization's Draft board.

The Cardinals, who have five picks over the first three rounds, including the 23rd overall, will use that Draft board to guide their selections over the three-day amateur Draft.

In addition to making final evaluations on players they've scouted for months -- and in some cases, years -- the Cardinals will get one more glimpse at a few. After holding four regional workouts over the past two weeks, the Cardinals will close their amateur scouting season with a workout at Busch Stadium on Sunday.

Correa estimated that there will be about 25 participants at the invite-only session.

"It's a combination of local kids and also some higher priority players from around the country who, for whatever reason, weren't able to attend one of our other workouts," Correa said. "It will be an opportunity for one last look."
