Cardinals recall LHP Tyler Lyons from Memphis

Reliever Sam Tuivailala optioned to Triple-A club

ST. LOUIS, Mo., May 5, 2015 - The St. Louis Cardinals announced prior to tonight's game with the Chicago Cubs that they have recalled left-handed pitcher Tyler Lyons from Memphis (AAA) and he will make the start tonight in the second game of the four-game series.   The team also announced that right-handed reliever Sam Tuivailala was optioned to Memphis following last night's game to make room for Lyons on the 25-man active roster.

Lyons, 27, was 2-1 with a 2.91 ERA in four starts this season for the Triple-A Redbirds with 26 strikeouts in 21.2 innings pitched. The 6-4, 200-pound lefty blanked Round Rock for 8.0 IP in his most recent start (April 28).

A native of Lubbock, Texas, Lyons owns a career mark of 2-8, 4.62 ERA in 23 games (12 games started) with 79 strikeouts in 89.2 IP.   He worked 4.2 scoreless innings in relief, striking out a career-high eight, in Game 1 of day/night double-header vs. the Cubs on Aug. 30, 2014.

Lyons has been assigned uniform no. 70.
