Gomez remains out of Astros' lineup

PHOENIX -- Astros center fielder Carlos Gomez was out of the starting lineup again on Saturday. He was out Friday after aggravating the left intercostal injury that kept him out for more than two weeks at the end of September on his game-ending throw Wednesday in Seattle.

Gomez is available to pinch-run and play defense, but Manager A.J. Hinch said said he's likely to play it safe.

"Gomez didn't feel particularly well coming out of the game in Seattle, mostly because of that throw at the end," Hinch said. "He had a lot of torque and a lot of energy. It wasn't a re-injury. He came out of it a little bit sore. He'll do anything for us. He'll run through a wall for us. He's trying to do everything he can."

Gomez said he got his treatment and came into the series ready to play. He said he has to fight through the injury at this point in the season.

"Now I get to the point I don't worry about it," he said on Friday. "It's exciting to play and exciting two days ago when I had the opportunity to play and help my team win the way we did. I came here ready to play today and I'm not the one who writes the lineup. I come here ready, positive and it's a big game today. Just move on."

Gomez returned to the starting lineup Wednesday for the first time in more than two weeks and went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases. He executed a game-ending double play by catching a Franklin Gutierrez liner and doubling up James Jones off first.
