Catcher Clevenger, infielder Flaherty make roster

FORT MYERS Fla. -- The Orioles' roster continues to take shape, with manager Buck Showalter telling catcher Steve Clevenger and infielder Ryan Flaherty on Monday that they will exit camp with the team.

Both players were expected to make the team, with Flaherty likely at third base while Manny Machado is on the disabled list, and Clevenger serving as Matt Wieters' backup.

"I don't know if he's looked around yet, but there's no other catcher in camp," Showalter said of delivering the news to Clevenger. The O's manager also joked that part of the reason he told Flaherty was so he could stop "walking around on eggshells" in camp.

It will be the third Opening Day roster for both Clevenger -- who is from Baltimore -- and Flaherty. Clevenger's prior two were with the Chicago Cubs, and he's said all spring that he won't believe he's made the club until Monday's season opener against the Red Sox in Baltimore.

"Not yet. I'm going to play it out and wait until the end," Clevenger said. "At the end of the day, when my name is called on Opening Day I'll be on the team officially."
