Sabathia meets Yanks after hospital stay

Left-hander rehydrated after feeling nauseous in Texas

CHICAGO -- CC Sabathia said that he has never experienced dehydration to the level that he did after toiling in triple-digit Texas heat on Thursday evening, requiring several IV bags and an overnight stay in an Arlington hospital.

Sabathia worked five-plus innings in a 7-6 loss to the Rangers at Globe Life Park and, upon returning to his locker, felt signs of nausea and weakness. The left-hander was taken to the Medical Center of Arlington as a precaution.

"Once I came out of the game, I was exhausted," Sabathia said. "I was done. It was really hard for me to get my uniform off. I got back to the training room and I felt nauseous, my head was hurting. They decided to hook me up to some IVs."

Sabathia was hospitalized overnight and traveled to Chicago on Friday afternoon. Yankees manager Joe Girardi reiterated that the team has no plans to remove Sabathia from the rotation, but is not certain when his next start will be.

"We're just going to have to see how he feels the next couple of days," Girardi said. "You would think that you give him the weekend and try to get completely healthy, in a sense. He just got dehydrated. We'll have to figure it out depending on how he feels."

Sabathia matched his season high with nine hits allowed, making the start on regular rest after the Yankees were forced to scratch right-hander Michael Pineda, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right forearm flexor tendon.

He said that the dehydration should not affect the preparation for his next start, whenever and wherever it takes place.

"I think I'm good," Sabathia said. "I usually hydrate really good before games, in-between games and in-between innings, nights before. This was just a tough one."
