Lake has earned more playing time

SAN DIEGO -- Although corner outfielder Justin Ruggiano could soon be coming off the disabled list, his return might not affect the playing time of Junior Lake.

Cubs manager Rick Renteria said Saturday that Lake deserves more playing time given the way the 24-year-old from the Dominican Republic has played.

Lake entered Saturday's game riding a nine-game hitting streak that matches the longest of his career.

Lake is hitting .375 (15-for-40) during the streak and .367 (18-for-49) in 14 games since May 8. He has hit safely in 24 of his 30 starts.
