Prospects Baez, Alcantara homer in Triple-A

Shortstop Javier Baez and second baseman Arismendy Alcantara, the Cubs' No. 1 and No. 6 prospects, respectively, both homered on Sunday while leading Triple-A Iowa to a 7-3 victory against Colorado Springs.

Baez hit a two-out grand slam in the fifth inning, giving the Cubs the lead for good. Alcantara followed with a solo shot to lead off the seventh inning.

Baez, ranked No. 6 on MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 Prospects list, finished the game 2-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to 10 games. During the streak, he is hitting .390/.409/.829 with four home runs.

Baez's hot streak comes after a slow start to the season. He suffered a sprained left ankle in April and hit .172 in 15 games. But after Sunday's game his batting average is up to .211 and he has seven home runs in 38 games this season.

Alcantara, ranked No. 77 on the Top 100, went 1-for-4. He is hitting .263 with five home runs in 45 games this season.

Right-hander Kyle Hendricks, the Cubs' No. 15 prospect, improved to 5-3 with the victory on Sunday. He struck out two, walked three and scattered three runs on seven hits in six innings. In 56 innings this season, he has a 3.21 ERA and has struck out 56 and walked 14.
