Royals sticking with Young for Game 4 start

KANSAS CITY -- Royals right-hander Chris Young said after Game 1 on Tuesday night that he would definitely be able to make his scheduled Game 4 start in the World Series on Saturday.

Manager Ned Yost confirmed that on Wednesday prior to Game 2 (7:30 p.m. ET air time on FOX, 8 p.m. ET game time).

"Yesterday, our plan for Chris Young was that if we needed him, we would use him 45 to 50 pitches and he would still be available in Game 4 [Young threw 53]," Yost said. "It would be just like a short start and then coming back a day early. He hadn't pitched in six days.

"We wanted to use Chris in that situation knowing that Chris would be available for Game 4, we would have Kris Medlen long for Games 2, 3, 4. So it just was a perfect scenario there."

Zobrist won't leave team
Much has been made of Ben Zobrist's wife's pregnancy -- Julianna Zobrist is due on Nov. 10.

Julianna tweeted on Tuesday that if she were to have the baby early during the World Series, she didn't expect Ben to leave the team -- she would just text him a photo of her and the baby.

"Obviously if it's a family matter and it's an emergency, and there's something that I need to be there for, I'll be there," Ben said. "But barring that, if I'm gone, she just said, 'You better hit a home run if I have the baby without you.'"

No sleep for Ned
Yost said he got to sleep about 4 a.m. CT on Wednesday, but he was still up bright and early at 6:30 a.m.

Why didn't he just try to fall back asleep?

"Because I had to pack and there's 18 people coming over to the house for breakfast this morning," Yost said, smiling. "My wife was up, [son] Andrew was sleeping on the couch, and then all of a sudden [daughter] Jenny and Jordan came in. And then here comes everybody else.

"Sometimes it's hard, but you just put a smile on your face, and say, 'Hey, everybody!'"
