Bergman to spell De La Rosa on Wednesday

DENVER -- The Rockies will start righty Christian Bergman on Wednesday afternoon against the Pirates because lefty Jorge De La Rosa is dealing with chronic tendinitis in his right Achilles tendon.

De La Rosa (9-7, 4.17 ERA in 26 starts) has pitched through various maladies all season, starting with a groin issue that cost him the first couple of starts. After his last start, when he threw an eight-inning complete game in a 2-0 loss to the Dodgers, De La Rosa said the tendon had bothered him "the last four months I was pitching."

Bergman (3-0, 3.81 ERA) will be making his 28th appearance and second start. In his past five relief appearances, Bergman has a 0.90 ERA and has held opponents to eight hits and one walk in his 10 innings.
