City tower to be incorporated in Pirates game day entertainment
The Gulf Tower in downtown Pittsburgh to announce Pirates highlights via light sequences
The Pittsburgh Pirates announced today the top of the Gulf Tower in downtown Pittsburgh will light up to coincide with Pirates runs scored and wins. The tower is illuminated by energy efficient LED lights and will prominently display key moments in Pirates games to become an extension of the game day experience.
The top six stories of the 44-story tower will have two separate in-game light sequences, one for Pirates home runs and another for runs scored for each game at PNC Park. Each light sequence will feature a black and gold pattern that lasts for 60 seconds. Also, following each Pirates win at home and on the road from now until the end of the season, the tower will display a separate light sequence that will run the remainder of the evening.
The tower, located at 707 Grant Street in downtown Pittsburgh, is a fixture in the downtown skyline and is clearly visible from PNC Park as the building is lighted colorfully each night. Now with the help of Larry Walsh of Rugby Realty, owners of the Gulf Tower, the Pirates scoreboard staff will have control of the lights during game days (home and away).
