Buchholz to be re-evaluated next week
Injured RHP could be running out of time to make a return
CHICAGO -- Clay Buchholz will be idled from throwing for at least one more week, as the Red Sox plan to re-evaluate him around Sept. 2, which is the six-week mark since his platelet-rich-plasma (PRP) injection.
"We're still gathering a bunch of information, and at that point we'll figure out where we're at," said interim manager Torey Lovullo. "And Clay is going to give us some feedback, and we're going to put together a plan after that six-week period of time."
Even if Buchholz were given the green light to start throwing at that point, it might be tough for him to build back up to the point where he could reach his goal of pitching in a game before the season ends.
"It might be a challenge, but that's what we're going to try and figure it out," said Lovullo.
Buchholz hasn't pitched since July 10, when he strained his right flexor.
