Cleveland Indians Outreach Efforts Highlight June 15-20 Homestand with Great Community Events and Opportunities

CLEVELAND, OH —   Throughout the season, the Cleveland Indians and its charitable arm Cleveland Indians Charities (CIC), with help from the coaches, players, Indians Wives Association, Indians corporate partners, the front office staff and the local community are able to volunteer time and give monetary support to a variety of youth-oriented organizations within Northeast Ohio.  This homestand is no exception, fans and supporters have the opportunity to participate in a variety of community and family-friendly activities.

Cleveland Indians welcome the 2012 Marine Week to Cleveland. Tonight’s festivities include:

Marine Rock Band performing on Gateway Plaza pregame; Quantico Marine Corps Band performing on-field pregame and during the 7th Inning Stretch; 50-participant Poolee Swear-in during pregame ceremonies; Ceremonial first pitch by Sgt. Major Michael Barrett of the Marine Corps; Marine Corps Color Guard; 2 MV-22 Marine Corps Flyover.

 

SATURDAY, JUNE 16 @4:05PM- Indians vs. Pirates

  • MARINE WEEK:

Cleveland Indians welcome the 2012 Marine Week to Cleveland. Tonight’s festivities include:

40-person Marine Corps Silent Drill Patrol performing on-field pregame; Ceremonial first pitch by Sgt. Major Michael Burke; Marine Corps Color Guard; 150x300 giant US flag on-field held by 150 members of KeyBank’s Military Networking Group; 2 CH-53 Marine Corps Flyover.

 

  • AQUAFINA MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL PITCH, HIT, & RUN:

Progressive Field plays host to the Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit, & Run on Saturday, June 16 from 9:00AM-10:30AM. This MLB initiative is a free skills competition that provides boys and girls, ages 7 to 14, the opportunity to showcase their pitching, hitting and running abilities. Winners can advance through four levels of competition, including Team Championship events at the 30 Major League ballparks and the National Finals at the MLB All-Star Game in Kansas City July 10. There are 8 NE Ohio finalists within 4 age groups with today’s champions being honored during pregame ceremonies prior to the Indians vs. Pirates game.  >>Click here for more information.

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY

  •     PLAY CATCH! ON PROGRESSIVE FIELD:

Treat Dad to a unique opportunity to play catch on the outfield grass of Progressive Field after today’s game. The event is only $15 per person with proceeds benefitting Cleveland Indians Charities. Participants will receive a replica commemorative Rawlings-brand soft baseball upon entering the field. In order to participate in Play Catch!, fans must be in attendance at the Indians game on Sunday, June 17 and purchase a separate Play Catch! ticket. Cleveland Indians welcome the 2012 Marine Week to Cleveland. Tonight’s festivities include:

  • “KEEP DAD IN THE GAME”, presented by MLBPA and Prostate Cancer Foundation:

Major League Baseball (MLB), the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA), and the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF), are teaming up for the 16th annual Prostate Cancer Foundation “Home Run Challenge” to raise funds for research and increase awareness of prostate cancer. On Father’s Day, June 17, MLB players, managers, coaches, trainers, umpires and groundskeepers promote awareness and show their support by wearing blue wristbands and blue ribbon uniform decals. Monday, JUNE 18 @7:05PM- Indians vs. Reds (“Showdown of Ohio” Series June 18-20)

  • PLAY CLINIC:

PLAY (Promoting a Lifetime of Activity for Youth) is a public awareness campaign of the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS), in conjunction with the Taylor Hooton Foundation and MLB Charities, to encourage kids to live healthy lifestyles. On June 18, 40 Boys and Girls Club of Cleveland members will learn the importance of living a healthy and active lifestyle with assistance from Indians Head Athletic Trainer Lonnie Soloff, Strength and Conditioning Coach Joe Kessler, and Assistant Athletic Trainer Jeff DeSjardins. In addition, kids have the opportunity to hit in the batting cages and exercise in the Indians weight room with Indians RHP VINNIE PESTANO.

 

TUESDAY, JUNE 19 @7:05PM- Indians vs. Reds

  • FILL THE HOUSE FOR CHARITY:

Fill the House for the USO of Northern Ohio. The non-profit will enjoy a ceremonial first pitch, “play ball” kid, national anthem and check presentation. $1 from every paid ticket for tonight’s game directly benefits the organization. Fill the House for Charity has raised over $1.68 million in monetary and in-kind donations for the participating Ohio non-profits since 2009. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 20 @7:05PM- Indians vs. Reds

  • MANNY ACTA ImpACTA SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT PRESENTATION:

Team manager MANNY ACTA will award two $2,500 ImpACTA Kids Foundation College Scholarships to two (2) qualifying high school seniors who demonstrate academic achievement and financial need.   • SANDY ALOMAR JR. SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT PRESENTATION:

The SANDY ALOMAR JR. SCHOLARSHIP awards one St. Martin de Porres student who has demonstrated academic excellence, leadership and community involvement. Dameyonna Willis is the 2012 SANDY ALOMAR JR. SCHOLARSHIP recipient. Dameyonna recently graduated from St. Martin de Porres High School and will attend Eastern Michigan University in the fall. She has worked in the Indians Front Office through all four years of her high school career as part of the St. Martin de Porres work/study program. Dameyonna will receive the $2,000 college scholarship during a check presentation during tonight’s pregame ceremonies.
