College lefty Musgrave gets bump to eighth round

DENVER -- A decision to return to college for an additional season proved beneficial for West Virginia left-hander Harrison Musgrave, the Rockies' eighth-round pick Friday in the MLB First-Year Player Draft.

Last June as a Draft-eligible sophomore, and on the heels of being named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Year, the Phillies selected Musgrave in the 33rd round, 991st overall. Musgrave, who had undergone Tommy John surgery on his left elbow his freshman year, returned to the Mountaineers and went 5-4 with a 2.62 ERA in 15 starts. He struck out 87 against 22 walks. The result was going 25 rounds earlier on Friday, with the 233rd overall pick.

The Draft concludes on Saturday, with exclusive coverage of Rounds 11-40 beginning on MLB.com at 11 a.m. MT.
