Weiss optimistic Cuddyer can avoid DL

DENVER -- Rockies outfielder-first baseman Michael Cuddyer did not start Friday night against the Phillies, and manager Walt Weiss said he hopes Cuddyer's left hamstring cramp will not require him to go to the 15-day disabled list.

Cuddyer suffered the injury in the seventh inning of the Rockies' 3-1 victory at San Diego on Thursday afternoon. Cuddyer received treatment from Rockies trainers Friday.

"I'm hoping," Weiss said. "You never know with these things but I feel pretty good that he won't have to go on the DL."

The Rockies started right-handed hitting Drew Stubbs in Cuddyer's No. 2 spot in the order against Phillies right-hander Jonathan Pettibone. Stubbs played center field and Charlie Blackmon replaced Cuddyer in right.
