Injury should not keep Chatwood from next start

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Rockies starter Tyler Chatwood does not expect to miss a start because of a left hamstring he strained running the bases Friday night.

"It feels better today," Chatwood said. "It's a minor strain so I had a little cramping to protect myself. We'll see how it goes and go from there. I'm on track as I normally would. I think I'm fine, but we'll see what happens."

Chatwood was removed from Friday's game against the Mariners in the top of the third inning after legging out a triple. The club characterized his injury as a slight strain and cramping. Jordan Lyles, who was optioned to Triple-A on Friday, appears in line to take Chatwood's place if he is unable to make his next start.

"The ball was hit in the gap and I was running like I always do, playing hard," Chatwood said. "I hit a little soft patch of dirt coming around second and I stretched a little too far. It's just how I was raised to play so I'm not going to dwell on anything."

Chatwood struck out one batter and walked one in two scoreless innings before the injury. He went 8-5 with a 3.15 ERA in 20 starts for the Rockies last season.

"We think it's minor right now so we'll just work on it and go day by day," Chatwood said.
